Horses Arriving For World Equestrian Games

By Alan Lytle, Kentucky Public RadioMany of the estimated 800 horses from 62 countries competing in the World Equestrian Games began arriving at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport Wednesday.Rusty Ford, Equine Programs Manager for the Kentucky State Veterinarian’s Office, says all the horses are walked to an on- site evaluation facility.“We’re actually looking at these animals, monitoring their food intake, water intake, temperature, respiration and pulse; looking for any evidence or signs of an illness. So, it’s not just the specific diseases that we’re testing for; when the horse leaves here it is going to be declared disease-free, and moving to the Kentucky Horse Park,” he said.Ford says the process will continue around the clock through October 14th, when the game end.
