A religious environmental group will discuss coal ash issues Tuesday evening in Shively.Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light will host a panel discussion on two specific issues relating to the ash created when coal is burned. Executive director Tim Darst says first, the group will discuss a proposed LG&E coal waste dump in southwest Louisville."It's something we don't want to just jump in to," he says. "It's something that does have an effect on the water quality. Coal ash has lots of toxic waste to it. We just want to make sure we look at all possibilities."The utility company says its waste facilities are safe, and its current Cane Run disposal site is running out of room. The group will then discuss an upcoming EPA hearing. The agency will hold a meeting next month in Louisville on possible new regulations on coal ash. Darst will speak at that meeting. He says Interfaith Power and Light may hold a march in support of the regulations.
