Yarmuth Expects Little Congressional Action Before Election

By Sheila AshIt’s back to business next month for Capitol Hill lawmakers.Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville says it appears that only one legislative item will get serious consideration before the November 2 midterm election."There’s still a hope that some kind of comprehensive energy legislation will pass before the end of the year. And there’s a possibility that some education legislation might pass after the election, but before the election it looks like the only significant piece would be proposals related to job creation," he said.Yarmuth says he’s offered a bill that would extend incentives for manufacturers to produce energy efficient appliances. He said these provisions were responsible for the creation of 800 new jobs at G E’s appliance park earlier this year.Yarmuth is seeking a third term in November. He faces a challenge from Republican Todd Lally, independentcandidate Michael Hansen and Libertarian Ed Martin.
