Drug Tosses Set for This Week

by Stephanie CrosbyPolice and solid waste management officials will be on hand this week for three drug tosses arranged by Metro Government. The program is an effort to prevent Louisvillians from improperly disposing of their expired or unused medications.Mayor’s office spokesperson Chris Poynter says such drugs should never be flushed down the toilet or thrown in the trash.“They can end up in the drinking water, the can end up in the ground water, and contaminate the ground water," says Poynter. "We’ve actually had people who are drug addicts who’ve gone into trash cans rummaging for old medicines, so to ensure that doesn’t happen we do a drug toss every year.”Tomorrow’s drug toss is set for Our Mother of Sorrows Church on Eastern Parkway. Two other drug tosses are set for this week: one Friday at the Family Health Center on Portland Avenue and one Saturday at the Belmont Village Senior Living center on Bowling Blvd. They’re all from ten to two.
