Simmons, U Of L Sign Agreement

by Gabe BullardSimmons College of Kentucky and the University of Louisville have formed a new partnership.Leaders announced they have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to provide better educational opportunities, particularly for African-American students.Simmons President Kevin Cosby says the memorandum lets his institution, located in west Louisville, act as a de facto junior college for some students."The agreement makes provisions for Simmons students to enroll in general education coursework that results in dual credits for Simmons and from U of L," he says."Students can move back and forth between the two universities, so that Simmons students can be at U of L, U of L students can also take classes here so that, again, everyone who is enrolling in either of our colleges can be enriched by this arrangement," says U of L Provost Shirley Willihnganz. Not all aspects of the memorandum are yet in place, but officials expect it to be in effect by the start of the fall semester.
