The Financial Times, quoting the news service mergermarket.com, reports that Duke Energy has "emegered as the winner" in an auction of E.ON U.S.' Kentucky assets. Duke officials also have not commented.The deal has been valued at $6 billion to $7 billion.Local and state government officials expressed an interest last month in purchasing the company when news surfaced that it might be for sale.Duke has about four million customers, including 137,000 in Kentucky and more than 700,000 in Indiana, according to Business First.LG and E and KU have more than 900,000 electric and natural gas customers.
