By Rick HowlettThe shuttle Discovery, which launched Monday morning in Florida, is carrying some techology developed in Kentucky.Lexington-based Kentucky Spacedesigned two microlabs that are being hauled to the International Space Station, where they will be used for biomedical and other experiments.Kentucky Space managing partner Kris Kimel says the CubeLab research modules (pictured) are about the size of a square tissue box. "The cubelabs will be placed in what's called a nano rack, a nano rack was co-designed by Kentucky Space and Nanoracks, LLC which is a Houston-based company," he said.The shuttle Discovery lifted off Monday morning and is scheduled to arrive at the International Space Station on Wednesday.Kentucky Space is public/private research and development consortium founded by the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation.(Photo courtesy of Kentucky Space)
