Louisville-based Norton Cancer Institute has broken ground on a $28 million radiation center at Broadway and Floyd Street. The 65,000 square foot, three-story facility is scheduled for completion in July of 2011.Radiation oncologist Dr. Aaron Spalding says it will enhance Norton's capability to treat cancer in adults and children."Unfortunately in kentucky we suffer from some of the highest mortality from cancer. More people die here from cancer despite being diagnosed at appropriate stages of disease, so there's a need for better treatment of our patients. The location of this allows us to expand our community outreach and our prevention and screening sowe can serve a lot of the underserved population in west Louisville," he said. The center will be connected by pedway to other facilities on the Norton Healthcare downtown campus, including Kosair Children's Hospital.
