An English and language arts teacher at Louisville's Ballard High Scholl is the recipient of a Milken Family FoundationNational Educator Award.The award includes a $25,000 cash prize.
Jay Crocker was presented the award during a surprise announcement Thursday morning at Ballard."I was shocked and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make it up to the front (to accept the award), " Crocker said. It was a truly exciting experience."Crocker is a 1995 graduate of Ballard and in his fourth year as a teacher there.Kentucky has had 50 Milken recipients since the state began participating in the program in 1993.The Milken Family Foundation, based in California, was established in 1982 to foster improvement in education, medical research and other fields.
