Kentucky Board Of Education To Meet This Week

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighThe Kentucky School Board this week will look at progress being made at some low performing schools around the commonwealth. The school board wants to hear reports from the Christian County, Covington Independent, Jefferson County and Union County school districts. Lisa Gross of the Education Department says the districts all have schools that are struggling and the board wants to know what kind of progress they’re making. “These are also some of our most diverse districts. That have high percentages of minority students. They have high percentages of low-income students. So, if they are successful in bringing up the achieve level of all their students, then they will be able to serve as models for their districts,” Gross said. She says the board, which meets Wednesday and Thursday in Frankfort, also wants to discuss its agenda for the rapidly approaching 2010 legislative session, which begins January 5th.
