U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell says the nation's health care system can be improved without a comprehensive overhaul proposed by President Obama. McConnell told an audience at the Kentucky Farm Bureau breakfast that Congress should instead concentrate on specific problems within the existing system.
"Because we have the finest health care in the world, we don't want to change that. The joke in the Senate is 'where will the Canadians go for quality health care if we do what they do?'" McConnell said.McConnell said Congress should change the tax code to allow individual purchasers of health insurance to deduct the cost on their tax returns, and crack down on what he called "junk lawsuits" against doctors and hospitals.
