From Kentucky Public Radio's T0ny McVeighGov. Steve Beshear has helped unveil a new United States Postal Service stamp honoring the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The 44-cent Kentucky stamp features the state flag and three horses, in front of a white plank fence in a green field.“This is a fitting illustration, with the AllTech World Equestrian Games coming up next year. And it’s a fitting reminder that Kentucky is the horse capital of the world,” Beshear said.Eventually, all 50 states will be honored with postage stamps, which are being issued in alphabetical order. Gov. Beshear also used the occasion to praise Kentucky’s rural post offices, calling them “the hub of daily activity.”The increasing use of email has the postal service considering closing some post offices, including at least four branch offices in Louisville.
