Midwest Airlines has returned to Louisville International Airport after a nearly one-year absence.Midwest pulled out of Louisville after 17 years last September as part of a larger reduction in service triggered by higher fuel prices and the struggling national economy, but this week the company resumed non-stop service to Milwaukee.
Company Vice-President Greg Aretakis says Midwest's return is the result of what he hopes will be a strong uptick in regional demand."Louisville's exactly what we were looking for in diversity and economic strength, and we're willing to ride the economy back up just as long as we were willing to struggle through it on the way down," Aretakis said.
Midwest Airlines is based in Milwaukee. Its purchase by Republic Airlines is expected to be final by the end of this month.
