Judge Orders Reinstatement Of U of L Nursing Student

A federal judge has ordered that a University of Louisville nursing student who was expelled over her blog posts be reinstated. The ruling from U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson came in a suit filed against U of L by Nina Yoder, who claimed the School of Nursing violated her free-speech rights. In his ruling, Simpson said the dismissal essentially violated U of L's contractual agreement withYoder. Her attorney, Dan Canon, says Yoder will re-enroll at the school."She absolutely is planning on going back to school as soon as she can get in there, which I assume will be the fall semester.    We're trying to work that out with university counsel now," Canon said.University of Louisville spokesperson Mark Hebert issued this statement:"In light of the U.S. District Court's ruling, our lawyers and the School of Nursing administrators will get together, they'll review the court's decision and ultimately determine what our next steps will be."Yoder was dismissed from the school over posts on her MySpace page, which the school said violated its code of honor.    The posts included details about unnamed hospital patients she worked with as part of her studies. An April WFPL feature story about Yoder's lawsuit can found here.
