Kentucky Jobless Rate Continues Climb

The state Education and Workforce Development Cabinet says Kentucky's  seasonally adjusted preliminary jobless rate in June was 10.9%, up from 10.7% in May.It's the highest since August of 1983, when Kentucky recorded a jobless rate of 11.1%.The national unemployment rate for June was 9.5%.Cabinet spokesperson Kim Saylor Brannock says the manufacturing sector suffered the steepest decline, typical of the production slump rippling through the national economy."We did have a few sector that we had gains in,"  Brannock said.   "One of them was educational and health services sector.    It actually increased by 1,200  jobs in June.     Another one that increased was the financial activities sector (which)  gained 700 positions in June."It's estimated that more than 122,000  Kentuckians were unemployed in June.
