Vigil To Mark Stonewall Riots Anniversary

Louisville's Fairness Campaign will hold a vigil tonight to mark the 40th anniversary of the New York Stonewall riots.Campaign director Chris Hartman says the uprising against a police raid at the city's Stonewall Inn marked a defining moment in the struggle for gay rights.

"A group of African-American, Latino, and white lesbian, gay and transgendered individuals fought back and resisted arrest. And that became the first unified action for the first gay civil rights movement," Hartman said.He says the vigil will also be used to call for the passage of a statewide fairness ordinance in Kentucky. It begins at 8:00 this  evening at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior Park in downtown Louisville.(Photo from www.wikipedia.org)
