American Council For The Blind Convention To Begin In Louisville

The American Council of the Blind will hold its 47th annual convention later this week in Louisville.More than two-thousand blind and visually impaired people from all 50 states and several foreign countries are expected to attend the convention.Spokesperson Ronald Milliman says the seven-day event will include discussion of issues such as the recent federal court ruling that the design of the country's paper money is unfair to blind people because they're unable to distinguish between denominations.Milliman says another matter is the safey risk associated with the popularity of hybrid automobiles."They're virtually silent, and when you're crossing the street, you're listening for cars, you're listening for traffic and those hybrid cars sneak up on you, and you simply can't hear them.   So we're trying to come up with a solution."The American Council of the Blind convention will be held July 4-12 at the Galt House Hotel.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
