Pension Reform Session Begins Today In Frankfort

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh State pension system reform will be the only item on the agenda as the Kentucky General Assembly convenes at Noon for a five-day special session. After it’s officially introduced, the 179-page bill Governor Beshear attached to the special session call will head to the House State Government committee. Rep. Mike Cherry, who chairs the committee, says hearings will begin immediately."The committee will meet at two o’clock and I might say to all concerned, come on over, because it’s going to be open and we’re going to go through everything," Cherry said. The bill is expected to move quickly because legislative leaders want to wrap-up the session by Friday.Tonight, Governor Beshear is scheduled to deliver a brief address on pension reform to a joint session of the General Assembly. Beshear called the session because the state pension system is facing a $26 billion deficit.
