3rd District GOP Congressional Candidates Debate On KET

The four Republicans who want to unseat Democratic Congressman John Yarmuth in the November election debated last Monday night on Kentucky Educational Television. The candidates include Anne Northup, who held the 3rd District seat for ten years before losing to Yarmuth in 2006, developer Chris Thieneman and Louisville residents Bob DeVore, Junior and Corley Everett.Thieneman repeated his claim from earlier this year that he was pressured by local GOP leaders not to challenge Northup for the nomination."There's a small group of elitist Republicans that are leading this community, and they were adamant about getting me out of this race," he said.Northup says she never asked anyone to intervene on her behalf."Let me just say in no way did I want Chris to get out of this race,  I didn't make any calls to have that happen," she countered. All four candidates fielded questions from journalists on issues such as the Ohio River Bridges Project, the war in Iraq, gas prices and global warming.Kentucky's primary election is May 20.
