Tuition Hikes Approved At UK, EKU

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved a new budget that raises tuition by nine percent for in-state, undergraduate students, and six-point-six percent for out-of-state students. The budget also freezes faculty and staff salaries to compensate for a three-percent cut in state funding. The only trustee to vote against the plan Tuesday was UK Student President Nick Phelps, who said the majority of students were "hoping and wishing that student tuition and fees would not rise."Meanwhile, the Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents has approved an eight percent tuition increase.Administrators at the University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University are proposing a nine-percent tuition hike at their institutions. Thanks to WUKY and WEKU/Kentucky Public Radio
