Post Bonnaroo.  I'm clean.  I saw a ton of bands, have mud still caked to my body, and the ringing in my ears is still playing the final notes to Nine Inch Nails "Hurt".  It was a heck of a good time and I promise not to play anything on this show related to the festival, becasue I'm sure you already sick of hearing about it.  Okay, thats a lie.  There is one, but I promise its totally worth it.  What?  You don't know if you can trust me now?  You can.  I promise.

Yo La Tengo - Periodically Double or Triple

New music from this ecletic trio from Hoboken, the song veers towards a 60's go-go sound with some cool Breeder's style riffs and a nice detour for a bridge.  If the rest of the record is this adventurous AND catchy, it'll be a summer highlight.  Look for the album Popular Songs to make its way to your Simplify Media on September 8 thru Matador Records.

Coast - Killing Off Our Friends

After two weeks, i'm still blasting this one.  It builds into a perfect 'Mats sound that has me shouting "we've been killing off our friends" like it was the best possible idea.  I haven't heard the rest of the EP, Expatriate, but I've read that their sound is all over the map, which is a little scary since they do this sound sooooo well.

Katzenjammer - A Bar In Amsterdam

One of my favorite new finds lately.  Just saw them at Bonnaroo (twice) and they stand as one of the most original and talented groups making the scene.  Four female Norwegianswho constantly trade off instruments and pay with the highest of energy.  Look for them to conquer the whole west by fall.  Try not to resist.  You'll be better for it.

Freeland - Under Control

This kept coming up in shuffle and I was sure I must have downloaded a new LCD Soundsystem track, but nope, just an awesome soundalike.  The line that seems to define the whole mood in the world right now "I heard a change is comin'. Got here before it arrived."  Honest words.  Crank this one at yer next basement party.  Maybe even hit repeat a few times.  And " relax, nothing is under control."

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - "Where Was My Brain"

Bloggers worship at the alter of Ted Leo.  Not Jesus-like.  Maybe more like Paul, or Peter, or Mark.  (biblical references in a music blog?)  I never knew beforehand, but i get it now.  This song is instant ear-candy and it grows on me with every listen.  The good news: this is only the demo, so there is presumably a bigger, better version coming.  The bad news: no clue what-so-ever when that might be, as Ted Leo is in no rush to get an LP out proper.

The Clean - In The Dream Life You Need A Rubber Soul

They haven't released anything in eight years, so this is a nice return.  It reminds me a little bit some 90's slo-mo brit pop, but at the same time, belongs right in today's day and age - a little bit hazy with a minor threat of direction.  Another September 8 baby, "Dreamlife" will be birthed by the Mister Pop LP.

Roadside Graves - Far & Wide

There is a TON of Indie-cana out there right now.  Most of it slow, and while pretty, usually boring.  Not so on this one.  Something about it carries it above the rest of Bearo-America.  Maybe because it has a nice hook.  Maybe that playful piano that comes in at a minute and a half.  Maybe its that takeoff in the last third.  Anyway, its worth your time.

Patrick Wolf - Who Will (Buffet Libre Remix)

This week's big dance track.  It personally doesn't do a ton for me, but as far as dance tracks go, its a dance track.  It does have a bit of an epic theme to it, which may be its only saving grace.  Shake yer ass, what yer self. Show me whatch yer workin with.

Throw Me The Statue - Ancestors

Along the lines of Interpol and Editors.  Its got a great guitar line straight of of 2004, but dated and late-to-the-game though it may be, its still good.  We may not remember it in 15 years, but for now, its the perfect track for today's grey sky.  Pick it up on Creaturesque on August 4ththrough Secretly Candian. The Mars Volta - Since We've Been Wrong

These dudes are crazy.  Their mathematical rhythms are crazy.  Their 'fro's are crazy.  I rarely know what they're saying, and even when I do, I usually can't figure out what it means.  I love em.  This one is a bit more streamlined as far as formula goes, but thats only in comparison to their usual output.  With that I mean there is a chance you can sing along to this one.  And while you do, keep your fingers crossed for that At The Drive-In reunion thats has been floating around in Rumor-Town.  Octahedron is out on June 23.

Discovery - Orange Shirt

So, the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot got together with the keyboardist for Vampire Weekend.  Indie overkill?  We hoped not.  What we did get is kind of a bland attempt at dance infused r&b by NYC kids.  It was good in theory, so hopefully something better will come from the collaboration.  July 7 sees the S/T record drop.

So Many Dynamos - New Bones

Does it really matter what you sound like when the CD says "produced by Chris Walla"?  Having the death Cab master-producer running the board gives you instant cred, and luckily, its deservedly so.  They've been putting them out since 2003 and have toured with all of the who's-who.  And they apparently like to constantly update their own Wiki.

Magnolia Electric Company - Josephine

Pretty sad story here.  The bassist was killed in a house fire a few years back, so the band put together this EP, Josephine, and made sure that 100% of the profits go to the wife and two sons.  So if you like this song and you don't pay for it, you may be heartless (its free almost anywhere as a single).  Great lyrics that you can own yourself on July 21.

Zero 7 - Everything Up

It may not have the instant likeability that their hit from Garden State, In The Waiting Line had, but its close.  One thing noticeably missing is the female you remember.  Her name is Sia and she has her own career now (and doing moderately well).  So the male duo who write the tracks pulled in a whole bunch of other people to add vocals where needed.  Yeah Ghost is out on September 8, which is shaping up to be a big day in Lo-Fi Land.
