Welcome to The Weekly Feed.  I’m your host Kyle Meredith and we’re jumping down the rabbit hole again and getting lost in this nutty little digital world we endearingly call Blog Land to find the best tracks making the web rounds for the week.  That means music from Johnny Foreigner, The Dead Weather, Grizzly Bear, Passion Pit, Tiny Viper, and tons more.  So grab your pen and paper and get ready for enough linky goodness to make your Mac explode.  Digital climax. Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson – Relator

We’ll kick the set off with a track that caught everyone off guard, but after further evaluation, no one seem to be surprised.  A duet record, The Breakup Album, between Pete Yorn and the blonde starlet, Scarlett Johansson will be hitting shelves in September, but the pair have already posted the lead track online for free.  This may come as a gamble after Johansson’s less than stellar reviewed Tom Waits cover record, but this one scores points for being an all original record, even if those originals were all penned by Pete Yorn.  AND, it seems this LP was actually recorded in 2006, before her TV on the Radio produced cover album, putting her actually at the forefront of the neo-soul movement that’s been dominating the airwaves since.  Time for a Scarlett reevaluation.

Kennedy – John and Yoko

Music from the artist that The Pop Stereo says “dances to the reflection of his own disco ball.”  Interesting thing about this Silverlake artist – he’s a former member of Silversun Pickups, not that you could tell by his poppy sound.  Maybe that’s why his stint in the band was so brief.  Anyway, the song features the vocal stylings of French cutely, Yelle and you can find the track on his latest CD, Life is a Party.

Nurses – Caterpillar Playground

Next up is a band usually known for their psych-pop sounds, the Portland based Nurses have crafted a rather pop directed tune this time out that’s elevated their playing field and found them launching from the label Dead Oceans – which in the indie world is pretty cool.

Johnny Foreigner – Feels Like Summer

A summer party song with some grit to it.  It has Buzzgrinder proclaiming “It makes me want to get all fist-pumpy and maybe punch somebody while I’m riding down the highway with the windows down and drinking some bourbon playing mumbletypeg.”  I LOVE quoting Buzzgrinder.  Pick up the record Album Number Two soon. Frankmusik – Confusion Girl

A remix done by the Danish spinster Don Diablo who’s track record is improving with every added beat and repeat.  You’ll be able to pick up the original track on July 6, but it seems the dance floor is where the kids will be blasting this one – perfect for your summer party or a WB slo-mo kissing scene.

The Dead Weather – Treat Me Like Your Mother

And now time for a Jack White break.  They seem to happen often enough, yeah?  Well, in his downtime from his dayjob in the Stripes, he’s seems to be having a blast in the indie super-group The Dead Weather.  Lead by vocalist Allison Mossheart, the band is giving us a second sneak peak at their forthcoming disc Horehound due out in July through their website. Much like their first single, for the easy price of your email you can grab the track for free.

Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks

Arguably the current ringleaders of all things woodsy.  And fans follow, too.  After they got bumped from their Letterman appearance a couple weeks ago, the listeners brought out their ax’s and beards and collectively bashed the late night show on their website, which surprised a lot of folks to learn that T1 lines have made it that far into the wilderness.  Okay, some of that may have been embellished a bit.  Regardless, you can pick up the new album Veckatimest now, and then face the rath of Steven Colbert.  Because he hates bears.

White Antelope – Silver Dagger

White Antelope.  Not ringing a bell?  Lets try Fleet Foxes then, which is the band vocalist Robin Pecknold would usually call his home when he’s not recording under this solo moniker.  And while there is no word of an album proper just yet, Peckford has been posting some beautiful covers on the White Antelope Myspace site, which is where the reworking of the old folk hymn Silver Dagger came from.

The Lonely Forest – We Sing In Time

The Lonely Forest are a band slowly creeping into the underground mainstream.  Come from a small town?  Check.  Playing taste-maker radio station sessions like KEXP?  Check.  Approval from a much bigger named indie rocker?  Check again.  That last one came from Death Cab’s Chris Walla who has professed his love for the band. So why hasn’t the rest of the world heard of them yet?  Well, here’s your chance to like ‘em before its uncool.

The Portland Cello Project – Tallymarks (featuring Thao)

The Portland Cello Project with help from Thao, who you might usually know as the vocalist of the Get Down Stay Down.  The nine piece cello collective has taken her hostage and reworked some of her tunes for their latest CD, Thao and Justin Power Sessions which will be out June 9 through Kill Rock Stars, and from most accounts, comes highly recommended. Passion Pit – The Reeling (Calvin Harris remix)

Lets pick the beat back up with a remix of the band Passion Pit’s latest craze.  Persona Sauna posted a the remix of the tune The Reeling and has since kept a pretty high profile across the web according to Elbo.  The track was reworked by Calvin Harris and definitely gives the song a dance floor edge.

Dan Black – Symphonies (Passion Pit remix)

And here is the trade off:  Passion Pit themselves took Dan Black’s song Symphonies and gave it a beat infused makeover.  The track originally had different lyrics, and all of them were Biggie Smalls', or rather his song Hypnotize, but without rights for the words, we’re left with these instead, but you can find the original if you look around…

Ben Nichols – Hey Darling, Do You Gamble

That’s new, unreleased music from the band Lucero.  In its demo form with just lead man Ben Nichols taking the reigns, the track popped up on I Am Fuel who alerted that the song “tells a story that Nichols teased out of a line from the Townes Van Zandt movie, Be Here To Love Me,” which is where the songs title comes from.  Look for Lucero’s major label debut due out this summer.

Paper Brain – Postman

I love it when I hear about a band using all vintage equipment in their recording process. Not that there’s anything wrong with the future, but something about the old stuff just sounds warmer.  Such is the case with Portland band Paper Brain who The Devil Has The Best Tuna adds, “Instruments and techniques from decades past help make up the band’s simple sound while unexpected literary inspiration creeps up from the canon of Edgar Allan Poe.”  Which is an odd thing to say, as I don’t remember The Raven ever being this happy. Tiny Vipers – Dreamer

The creation of Jesy Fortino, her sophomore record Life On Earth hit shelves on July 7 straight from the Sub Pop cabinet, who has also included that track on their latest Cybersex Digital Sampler on the label’s website.

And that brings us to a close.  Thanks a ton for hanging out and listening and hopefully finding something new to obsess over.  Remember, if you like what you heard, be sure to tell a friend.  The Weekly Feed is produced by myself and Todd Smith at MixWorks Studio in Louisville, KY, Allison Riggs sets up the interviews, and I’m your host Kyle Meredith.  We’ll see ya next Monday night at 8 for The Weekly Feed on 91.9 WFPK Radio Louisville.
