91.9 WFPK Radio Louisville announces the launch of Louisville's favorite concert series on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on its new permanent home at the Big Four Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park, located next to the newly opened Big Four Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge.
The first installment of the summer series will feature Ra Ra Riot, Leagues, and Louisville's own, A Lion Named Roar. More announcements will be made as the concert dates approach. The concerts take place on the last Wednesday of every month, April through September. Dates for the 2013 season are April 24, May 29, June 26, July 31, August 28, and September 25. The Big Four Lawn "opens" at 5pm, and the music begins promptly at 6pm.
Ra Ra Riot has been playing sold out shows across the country while touring in support of their new album Beta Love. Formed in the basements and attics surrounding Syracuse University in 2006, Ra Ra Riot released their debut The Rhumb Line on Barsuk in 2008. NPR Music said their 2010 album The Orchard's "10 songs positively burst with sophistication, precision and polish."
The Nashville-based band Leagues recently released their debut full-length album You Belong Here to critical acclaim. The album was featured on the WXPN "World Café: Next" series, declaring, "the album plays like a collection of singles, each track as catchy as the next."
Louisville's own A Lion Named Roar has been gaining national attention following the release of their Foreign Land EP and was featured as part of Nigel Lythgow's feet for FOX's "Americas Next Greatest Band".
April's Waterfront Wednesday is made possible by the generous support of Goose Island Brewing Company, Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company, Koerber's Fine Jewelry and the MINI Cooper dealership, MINI of Louisville.
Special thanks to Friends of the Waterfront.
