Environmental Reporter Hired For New Project
Kristin Espeland, former reporter and host at Wyoming Public Radio in Laramie, has been chosen to lead Public Radio Partnership’s new environmental reporting initiative for the Ohio Valley watershed.This year at WPR Espeland won two national Public Radio News Directors, Inc. (PRNDI) awards for the quality of her journalism.“PRP is fortunate to have attracted one of the public radio system’s outstanding young talents for this important project,” says Executive Director Donovan Reynolds. “She is known to be an outstanding radio producer and a tenacious reporter,” he adds.Espeland began her career in the corporate world as Director of Corporate Communications at the MONY Group in New York. Her strong interest in the art of radio storytelling and belief in journalism for the public good led her to the graduate program in journalism at Columbia University. In addition to her work at WPR, she has produced segments for Weekend America, National Public Radio and Wyoming Public Television. She is a member of the Society for Environmental Journalists and has participated in their training programs.“It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to cover one of the most important issues of our generation,” Espeland said. “I’m especially looking forward to reporting on the rich and complex Ohio Valley region.”Espeland is a co-founder and performing vocalist with “Yasna Voices,” an a capella Balkan choir, and “The Ukeladies,” a ukulele and vocal harmony trio.
