Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on Tuesday named Gabriel Fritz to be the new director of the Office of Housing and Community Development, an appointment that comes as the city prioritizes its affordable housing needs.
For the past six years Fritz worked at The Housing Partnership, Inc. The non-profit group’s main work is aimed at increasing and sustaining access to affordable housing throughout Louisville.
In his position, Fritz will oversee Metro Government’s affordable housing pilot program, Louisville CARES.
“Gabe’s progressive approach to housing and proven leadership will ensure that we continue to achieve our goals – and set even more aggressive ones,” Fischer said in a statement. “He has experience in both private and non-profit housing development and understands the unique needs of both.”
Just this week, the Metro Council considered a set of zoning changes aimed at increasing housing options for the city’s working poor.
