Republicans Pick Football Coach Bob Redman For Metro Council Special Election

Louisville’s Republican Party has chosen former Male High School football coach Bob Redman as the candidate for the District 10 Metro Council special election set for this November.

This special election follows the death earlier this year of former council President Jim King.

The Metro Council chose Democrat Steve Margre in February to fill the District 10 until the end of the year. King was also a Democrat. But party leaders chose assistant county attorney Pat Mulvihill as the candidate for the upcoming election.

The winner of the special election will serve until the end of 2016, when King's term was set to expire.

Redman became the Male High football coach in 1992 and retired about five years ago. He won two state titles during his time at Male, and he's also the father of former University of Louisville football star Chris Redman. He's also served as the head coach at Jeffersonville High.

This story has been corrected to reflect that Redman is no longer coach at Jeffersonville High.
