A seventh Kentucky city has approved an ordinance providing protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.The Danville City Commissioners on Monday approved the ordinance 4-1, according to the Fairness Campaign. Danville Mayor Bernie Hunstad opposed the measure. The Advocate Messenger newspaper adds: Despite lengthy discussion, the ordinance voted into law Monday exempts "faith-based institutions." A previous draft included a faith-based clause that did not include institutions which received a majority of funding from government agencies. Following a threat of litigation by legal representatives for Sunrise Children's Services, which receives upwards of 80 percent of its funding from government agencies, the commission changed the ordinance.The other Kentucky cities with fairness ordinances are Covington, Frankfort, Lexington, Louisville, Morehead and Vicco. A statewide fairness lawwas proposed in the 2014 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, but lawmakers did not approve the measure.
