Chart: Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District's Rate Increases Since 2005

The Metropolitan Sewer District will increase its rate by 5.5 percent.The "typical" residential sewer bill each month will increase $2.02 and the drainage fee will increase by 40 cents. For those typical residents, the rate increase makes the monthly bill $44.58 based on 5,000 gallons of water consumption.It's a decrease from last year's 5.8 percent and the 6.5 percent levied from 2009 to 2012. If you're having trouble seeing the graphic, go here.The district's board approved the increase this week, along with its budget for the 2005 fiscal year.In a news release, MSD said: The FY 2015 Operating Budget totals $115.9 million which is a less than 1% increase from last year’s budget. This year's operating budget includes funding to begin the operational transition from 18 wastewater plants to 5 regional treatment facilities by December 2015. The budget also includes $1 million for Strategic and One Water initiatives and a $4.5 million contingency reserve should the community face any major storm events or other emergency needs. The FY 2015 operating budget calls for a staffing plan of 655 full time positions.
