JCPS Initial School Application Period for 2014-15 Ends Friday

Update 4:15 p.m. Monday: Mobile Application Canceled

The initial application and registration period for Jefferson County Public Schools ends Friday.Parents can still apply after Friday's deadline for the 2014-15 school year, but it may be to their child's detriment, In JCPS's elementary student assignment system, parents who apply before the deadline ends have a better chance of getting their child into a school of their choice, according to the school district.“By getting your application in by Jan. 10, you really increase your chances significantly of receiving your first or second choice, your magnet, traditional applications, whatever the case may be," JCPS spokesman Ben Jackey said. "That’s why we’ve been encouraging parents throughout this time period, at the elementary and middle and high school levels to get their applications in.”Applications for magnet schools or programs received after the deadline won't be considered if all the spots in that school/program are filled first, the school district said. Here's who the school district wants to apply:

  •
  • All children entering kindergarten
  • Elementary school students who wish to apply to an optional/magnet program or school
  • Students entering or currently in middle school or high school who wish to apply to an optional/magnet program or school
  • Students for whom an application was previously submitted but whose family has since moved, thus creating a need to resubmit using the new address
  • Students entering a Jefferson County public school for the first time
JCPS has gotten about 10,200 applications since the process began in November, Jackey said. That appears to be more than last year.
