Frankfort Park Seeks Sculpture for Summer Shakespeare

??????????

Frankfort's Josephine Sculpture Park is home to more than thirty pieces of art, and every summer, they add a new piece through an innovative approach to integrating the arts. In each annual Summerstage outdoor theatrical production, a new sculpture becomes an integral part of the production's set design. Last summer's production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" featured a wood sculpture by Louisville chainsaw artist Andrew Marsh. The upcoming summer production of Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" needs a sculpture that can serve a particular need. From the call for artists:  One of the most challenging moments of the play is the revival of Hermione, who died sixteen years prior, and who is “brought to life” from a statue of her.  The sculpture selected for this production will fully embody the tension suggested in this compelling denouement of the production, exploring the liminality between the human form and the art form.   Specific themes in this script include redemption, jealousy, and the cycle of destruction to renewal (emotional, physical and seasonal). The park seeks submissions of large-scale sculpture which are suitable for outdoor exhibition (and physical interaction with actors) for at least one year, 10-20 feet in height and connected thematically to "The Winter's Tale." The selected sculptor will receive an honorarium; professional installation by sculpture park employees included. The deadline for proposals is January 15. Submission information is available on the Josephine Sculpture Park website.
