Kentucky has created a new task force to help turn public libraries into better early childhood education resources for families.
The 54-member group includes librarians from across the state who are charged with developing standards and resources that local libraries can use.“I think this helps bring public libraries to the table," says task force member Heather Deiffenbach who also works for the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives."We’ve always been a great resource, but I think we can do a better job of spreading awareness of that and working together with the resources we have,” she says. The task force will break into committees that will research different topics, like outreach and training, says Deiffenbach. Funding is an issue, she says, and the groups will likely focus on how to do more with the resources available.
