Up Front TV: Congressman John Lewis

Congressman John Lewis is an icon of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1963 he gave a keynote address at the March on Washington. Lewis was only 23-years-old. In 1961, he volunteered to participate in the Freedom Rides, which challenged segregation at interstate bus terminals across the South. Following the March on Washington, Lewis led over 600 peaceful protestors across a bridge in Selma, Alabama, when they were attacked by state troopers on a day that would be called “Bloody Sunday.” Since 1987 Lewis as served as the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 5th Congressional district.
