The Louisville Zombie Attack is lurching around the corner. Suppose you are interested in dressing up as the undead and walking Thursday night in the Zombie Attack—or you are interested in watching, or you at least enjoy scary movies. For you, here's a list of five movies to inspire you. The list and comments come from Lyndi Lou, the Louisville tattoo artist and co-founder of the Louisville Zombie Attack.
“Night of the Living Dead”/”Dawn of the Dead”/”Day of the Dead”"All three. I’m putting them together because they all have to be mentioned but I don’t want to overwhelm a Top 5 with them. George A. Romero created the modern zombie mythology. They’re social commentary about racism and class warfare, and they just set the stage for any kind of modern zombie movie."
"Wild Zero""It’s kind of one that’s not out in the forefront, but it’s a fun rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly zombie movie. Guitar Wolf, the band, is in it. Their music is rad. And for the 21-plus crowd, there’s a drinking game—any time something catches fire or they put a comb through their hair. That’s pretty solid."
"Shaun of the Dead”"It’s the funniest of all the zombie movies. They reference other horror movies—Romero’s referenced a lot in it. They say, ‘We’re coming to get you, Barbara,’ to Shaun’s mom. That’s a reference to “Night of the Living Dead.” There’s a part where one of the protagonists is torn apart by a zombies, that’s another reference to Romero. They also reference Lucio Fulci, whenever they are looking for an Italian restaurant to go on a date with. It’s especially good for the younger crowd, because it’s not overwhelmingly scary."
"Dead Snow”"It’s gore and humor and Nazi zombies."
"Braindead/Dead Alive""It’s the same movie, but it has two different titles. It’s Peter Jackson’s pre-“Lord of the Rings” work. It’s hilarious. It’s really gory and kind of gross, but in a funny way. I made me never want to eat soup again, and I look at lawnmowers differently."Some honorable mentions: “Return of the Living Dead,” “Fido,” “Zombieland,” “White Zombie,” “Serpent and the Rainbow” The Louisville Zombie Attack begins at 8:29 p.m. Thursday at Mid City Mall.
