M. Dwaine Greene will be the new president of Georgetown College.Greene succeeds William Crouch, who retired after leading for 22 years the private liberal arts college in Scott County, just outside of Lexington.โI hold deep respect for what Georgetown has accomplished during its many decades," Greene said in a news release. "Quality academics in concert with faith commitments is what resonates with me both personally and professionally."Greene is currently the provost at Campbell University in North Carolina. He's held that post since 2011, according to a news release from Georgetown College.Greene was not an initial applicant for the post. The Georgetown Board of Trustees chose him after two candidates withdrew and a third candidate was declined. One of the candidates whowithdrew included former Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry,currently a vice president and general counsel for the college.Greene's background is in religion academia. He's previously served as chairman of the religion and philosophy department of Chowan College in North Carolina. Georgetown was founded as a Baptist college in 1829 but, under Crouch's tenure, cut official ties in 2006 with the Kentucky Baptist Convention.The college has an undergraduate enrollment of 1,116 and a graduate enrollment of 427.
