More News! WFPL's Midday Changes Begin July 1

As you may know, Talk of the Nation is ending on July 1st. In its place, NPR is working with WBUR in Boston on a two-hour version of Here and Now.WFPL has aired Here and Now for two years at 1:00 on weekdays. Talk of the Nation currently airs from 2:00-4:00. The announcement that Talk of the Nation was going away left us with some choices for our middays. We've made some decisions, and we'd like your thoughts. We want to provide lively, thoughtful, responsive news coverage throughout the day, so we're going with a second hour of Here and Now. Starting in July, you'll hear the show from 1:00-3:00. Host Robin Young will be joined on air by Jeremy Hobson, formerly of the Marketplace Morning Report (you can watch Robin sing "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" for pledges here). We'll be putting in plenty of locally produced content as well, so the afternoons will have a strong mix of local, national and international news.At 3:00, we'll bring you The Takeaway, with John Hockenberry (a great journalist and the man responsible for introducing me to Yo La Tengo). The show comes from WNYC and PRI and will bring even more news coverage to the afternoons. On Fridays, things won't change. We'll keep producing Byline at 1:00 and Science Friday will follow from 2:00-4:00.We're excited about these shows and about having even more news on in the middle of the day. Let us know what you think.
