Angel's Envy Bourbon Gets $800,000 in Incentives for Possible Downtown Louisville Distillery

The distiller behind Angel’s Envy bourbonhas been approved for as much as $800,000 in state incentives to build a distillery in Louisville. The state incentives will last for as many as 10 years for a distillery that would create 40 new jobs with a payroll of about $1.5 million. The craft bourbon distillery’s owners have plans to invest $10 million in a building and equipment.Chris Poynter, a spokesman for Mayor Greg Fischer, says the hope is that the Angel’s Envy distillery may contribute to the city’s desire for a bourbon district to attract tourists."Their goal and our goal is for it to be downtown," Poynter says. "Obviously, they want to build off the synergy that's happening right now with the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, with what's happening on Whiskey Row, with what's happening with the Fort Nelson building and Michter's."But Poynter says the craft bourbon maker has not yet picked a location. The craft bourbon’s producer was also approved for a $72,000 in a state sales tax rebate."The great thing about this is it's new jobs, it's a significant investment downtown and it's about our favorite product—bourbon," Poynter says.A representative for Angel's Share Brands LLC—the producer of Angel's Envy—could not be reached for comment.
