This weekend's rain has caused some major problems for Louisville's sewer system. There were about three inches of rain Saturday evening and Sunday, causing overflows and backups all over Jefferson County. But the biggest problem is probably an equipment malfunction that leaked 95 million gallons of stormwater and waste into waterways. From MSD: On Sunday, at approximately 8:30 a.m. the Derek R. Guthrie Water Quality Treatment Center in southwest Jefferson County experienced a major failure of the plant 's mechanical screening system. Emergency repairs are underway and MSD estimates that 95 million gallons of storm water and wastewater have overflowed into Pond Creek and Mill Creek. MSD is working diligently to repair the screens. As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, one screen had been successfully repaired, allowing a portion of the wastewater plant to be returned to service.Today is probably a good day to stay away from Pond Creek and Mill Creek. And if your sewer is backing up, you can call MSD at 502-587-0603.
