Louisville's Air Pollution Control District will hold a public hearing tomorrow to let residents weigh in on two pending air pollution permits.Louisville Gas and Electric is seeking permitsto install advanced pollution controlsat its Mill Creek power plant in Southwest Louisville. The company is taking the steps to comply with upcoming federal regulations that will limit the amount of pollution power plants can emit.Mill Creek was built in 1972, and LG&E says it’s still economical to retrofit the plant. The older Cane Run plant is expected to be retired and replaced with a natural gas facility over the next few years.Under LG&E’s plan, the company will install new scrubbers on units 1, 2 and 4 and upgrade the scrubber on unit 3 to further limit sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions from Mill Creek. The permit also allows LG&E to add baghouses to all four units to control mercury and sulfuric acid.Even though the company’s proposal will limit air pollution, any changes to facilities are required to apply for new permits from the Air Pollution Control District. The hearing is tomorrow at4:00 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium.
