Environmental activists are planning an event in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby to raise awareness about the effects of climate change. The event is called Connect the Dots, and it’s a project of national environmental movement 350.org. The group scheduled Saturday as a day of action against climate change across the country. Louisville organizer Drew Foley says rather than opt out, the local chapter decided to use the Kentucky Derby to help get their message out.“Since it’s Derby Day, we couldn’t really plan anything separate from Derby, we didn’t figure, because nobody plans anything on that day,” Foley said. “So we just thought we would try to join the event in some way, just to bring some sort of awareness.”Participants will walk up and down Central Avenue handing out stickers and flyers. They’ve taken a pledge to be non-violent, and Foley says no one plans to be arrested.
