KLC Chief Says Organization Is Rebounding From Scandal

by Dan Conti, Kentucky Public RadioThe executive director of the Kentucky League of Cities is traveling across the commonwealth to meet with local officials, hear their concerns and try to restore the credibility of the organization.John Steiner was in Ashland today as part of that mission. The KLC's reputation was blemished two years ago when it was investigated by the Kentucky Attorney General's office following allegations of conflicts of interest and questionable expenditures. Steiner was hired a short time later. He says changes in administrative procedures have been made and its members now have more confidence in the league."I do believe that’s happened, yes. And the only way that KLC and I can do that is if we make promises, we follow through on those. We are open and transparent. Our website has all of our expense data. It’s very easy to obtain and look at. And we’ll just keep trying to make good decisions on behalf of our members," he said.Steiner says he's getting positive feedback on the moves KLC has been making over the past year-and-a-half.
