UPS Grant to Benefit Zoo's 'School at the Zoo' Program

UPS is giving the Louisville Zoo$40,000 toward the “School at the Zoo” program. The Louisville Zoo has been offering “School at the Zoo” since 1999. Director John Walczak calls it the zoo’s flagship educational program.“Students learn all the curriculum they would in the classroom, of course this is emphasizing science, but they learn about the natural world and have natural world applications with the incredible live educational tools we have here, about some of the applied aspects to the classroom,” he said. The UPS grant will provide scholarships for classes to spend a week at the zoo. Walczak estimates more than 1,000 students participate in the program annually. Some of the grant money will also go to capital projects and the zoo’s annual Halloween party.
