KentuckianaWorks Announces Scholarships For Unemployed

KentuckianaWorks will award $800,000 in scholarships over the next few months to help nearly 200 area unemployed or underemployed workers.Six career areas have been targeted,  and the jobs range from medical assistants to machine operators to office supervisors.Scholarship recipients will get up to $4,000 a year for two years. More funding is available for additional fees like uniforms or exam costs. In return applicants will be expected to earn a technical certification, an associate’s degree or complete the last two years of a bachelor’s degree.Mayor Greg Fischer said this supports Louisville’s 55,000 Degrees initiative, which seeks to increase the number of post-secondary degrees by the year 2020.Applicants can visit one of the four One-Stop Career Center locations to learn if they are eligible for the job-training funds.  KentuckianaWorks requires applicants to live within the seven county region, including Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties.
