Kentucky Jobs with Justice is hosting a rally in support of public workers next week. The event is being called a ‘Block Party’ as a celebration of the work of public employees. Organizer’s say The rally is being held in Louisville as part of a national day of solidarity to defend the public sector.Event Coordinator Attica Scott says she hopes the rally will not only celebrate and show solidarity with public workers, but that it will educate the public about the plight of public workers today.“Our community supports and stands with our public sector workers. Including firefighters, police officers, teachers, state workers and social workers;" she says, "and so we wanted to celebrate them but also to do some public education and public awareness.”The Event is being co-hosted by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the IUE/CWA, a national and international union of electrical and mechanical workers.“We are here to make sure that people are organized around labor unions that people are educated about worker justice issues and that we have strong community support for the folks who serve our community every day.”The event will be Monday April 4.
