Library Expands Adult Education Facilities

A half-million dollar renovation is complete at the main branch of the Louisville Free Public Library. The Library Learning Center is an area where adults can sign up for continuing education classes through Jefferson County Public Schools. The classes help adults learn job skills and work toward earning a GED."It'll be staffed with Jefferson County Public Schools adult and continuing education teachers who will use high-tech tools to teach basic skills that many of our adult citizens need to enter or re-enter the workforce and move up to a better job," says Mayor Jerry Abramson. The project was paid for by the Library Foundation, but some of the renovations were done after the library was damaged in last year's flood."Those dollars played a role, but the significant portion in terms of all the high-tech tools and the computers were all funded through the library foundation," says Abramson. The library will now also offer help with resumes and job searches, and free GED tests.
