The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, begins next month. But disabled and elderly residents can apply for assistance starting Wednesday.Pre-registration is available for low-income Louisvillians who are also disabled or elderly and receiving certain benefits such as Social Security. Community Action Partnership staff will visit various community centers in the next few weeks to take the early applications. CAP spokesperson Debbie Belt says early and standard registrations have increased in the last two years."Last year we had somewhere around 2,800 people in the month of October," she says. "Each site differs. Some are a little bit different than others. Some, we may see 100 people and some maybe 50 people."Standard LIHEAP applications will be taken at the end of this month at CAP offices.
