Most of us have memories of lunchtime at school - wondering how to get invited to sit with the popular kids, trying to stay out of trouble with the cafeteria workers, and, of course, those mysterious rectangles of unknown origin passing for food. A lot of thought and planning goes into school lunch menus; nutrition requirements must be met and budgets must be considered. A new $7.9 million health grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, administered by the Metro Department of Health and Wellness, will partially go toward improving access to healthy food - including school lunches.
