Two Democrats Vying For First District Seat
by Gabe BullardThe race for the First District Metro Council seat in Louisville could be decided Tuesday.Only two candidates have filed to run for the seat. Both are Democrats and will face each other in Tuesday primary. Incumbent Judy Green is a member of the council’s budget committee. She also recently helped steer a resolution through the council urging young people to stop sagging their pants. Green has been campaigning door to door and says she has strong support for re-election."I've had very good response, very positive response as I walk the district," she says. "I've walked nearly the entire district and I still have more to go."Green's challenger is retired police officer Ray "Sir Friendly" C Barker. He says he's heard from several residents in the west and south-end district who want a council member who will give more attention to issues that affect their neighborhoods."This is what the constituents have reported to me," he says. "I realize, whether it's factual or not factual or not factual, I can only report what [I hear]. As I go door to door, knocking on doors, talking to people, listening to people, this is one of the things I hear from residents."While no other candidates are seeking the 1st District seat, independent candidates have until August to file to run.
