KSP Issues 419 Commercial Vehicle Citations in Blitz

by Stephanie CrosbyThe Kentucky State Police joined with their counterparts in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan over the weekend in an enforcement blitz aimed at finding violations by and around commercial motor vehicles.The 24-hour enforcement blitz focused on routine stops and inspections of tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles. Trooper John Hawkins says the blitzes are good at creating buzz.“It’s not a tool to generate income at all for any one agency or for the general fund. It’s not effective for that," says Hawkins. "However, it is effective at reducing the number of trucks in the future that have violations, especially if it’s from a particular company.”Hawkins says in Kentucky alone, 419 commercial vehicles were inspected – resulting in 160 traffic citations and 188 written warnings. Of those, 42 drivers and 72 vehicles were placed out of service.Passenger vehicles were also given citations for driving dangerously around commercial vehicles.
