Raytheon To Expand In Louisville

by Gabe BullardThe Raytheon corporation will expand its operations in Louisville. The defense contractor will add 30 jobs and build a new facility near the former Naval Ordnance Station. The employees will be mostly engineers and mechanics, with salaries above 50 thousand dollars.Mayor's spokesperson Chris Poynter says Raytheon's expansion will help the city recover from recent layoffs at Humana and Jewish Hospital."All these small expansions are slowly, over time, rebuilding our economy," he says. "Again, these are well-paying, manufacturing, highly-skilled technical jobs."Raytheon was offered half a million dollars in tax incentives over ten years to expand in Louisville. The company's new facility will be used to modify and retrofit weapons and electronics systems for the military.Raytheon currently has 335 full-time employees in Kentucky.
