About 300 representatives of the construction, transportation, development, planning and contracting industries attended a workshop this morning to learn more about a new federal program. Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville hosted the workshop, which educated attendees about the new Sustainable Communities Interagency Partnership that involves three federal agencies.Yarmuth says the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development--and the Environmental Protection Agency-- have combined some funding for projects that build sustainable communities.“If the community is not prepared to take advantage of these programs, we’re going to be missing out on a lot of potential funding opportunities," says Yarmuth, "and this community has enormous potential for doing that.”Yarmuth says he thinks Louisville’s commitment to strong neighborhoods will make local applications more appealing to federal agencies.
